We learned an important lesson the day before while climbing to Hancock: ascend the ridge either really early in the morning or after 5:00 PM when the sun is on the other side of the ridge. Tom Taylor's cabin was about three miles away. To get there, we had to ascend and cross Crapo Ridge. We started at 5:00 PM. The sun had just dipped behind the ridge and it was not too unpleasant, other than we still needed to make the 1,000 foot ascent to Diamond Lake. We were there in about an hour, not much different than without a pack the day before. We continued on up Crapo Ridge. The view down the Wooley drainage was spectacular. Unfortunately, the scene was front lit so badly that I couldn't get a good shot of it. You could see all the way out to the coast. I did grab a shot of Cathy and Ramona a little later.

The view across the North Fork included Mt. Shasta in the distance.

This shot looked back down toward the North Fork Canyon and English Lake.

A panorama a little further down included the whole canyon.

Another one looked a little further out.

Cathy and Ramona hiked along the ridge.

They paused and I took their picture.

Ramona got a shot of me on the ridge.
I took a shot of Dmitria.

Storm Clouds hung over the distant ridges.
